National Parklands Day

In celebrating National Parklands Day, cub scout Pack 196 will be doing trail maintenance at Nockamixon Park as a community service and have invited our 4-H group to come along and help keep our state parks clean.
We will be meeting by the marina at 6pm on the 23rd and will be picking up trash along the trails and the water’s edge. Bring gloves and wear shoes and clothes that can get muddy/wet.
Please contact Mrs. P if you are interested in attending. If we can get a group to go this will count as a service project for the club, pledging our head, hearts, hands and health to our community.

Hiking and photography at Haycock Mountain

We had a wonderful day hiking to the very top of haycock mountain on Sunday and couldn't have asked for better weather. We had approximately a dozen kids and some adventerrous fathers blaze the trail over logs and rocks, or shall I call them boulders?   Our guest leader, Mr Hall, kept the kids attentive with interesting facts about identifying leaves and trees. We chimneyed up the rocks at the top and a round of appluase to Mr Neuman for chimneying from bottom to top.
Our photography group took some amazing nature pictures including a spider web that glistened a vibrant blue, snails in beautiful conkshells. They showed a great eye for detail and can't wait to see all the pictures developed!
Kudos to Tom Neuman for collecting trash including a grill lid and a lunchables box and carrying them all the way back down to properly dispose of the trash!

Our group will be meeting again at the boat dock parking lot in Lake Towhee at 1pm next Sunday afternoon. We will spend 15 -30 minutes making stamps for letterboxing. Draw some ideas this week that you may want to put on your stamp. something personal, funny or something for 4-h. the stamps will be small, approx 1" by 1" and the key is to keep it simple. We will have a 4-H clover stamp that we will plant and hide in the park and we will go out on a shorter hike to try and find 4 letterboxes already in the park. Find out more about letterboxing here http://www.letterboxing.org/index.php. I found out this week, there is a letterbox at the top of haycock mountain! anyone up for going back up to find it?

For those in Drama, we will leave straight from the hike and head over to drama at 3pm.

Happy Hiking!
Mrs. P.

Hiking and Photography starts tomorrow

Talk about knocking 3 birds out with one stone! We have combined some really cool projects together and will be knocking them out over the next month.

Sunday Sept 13th 10am Haycock Mountain (Top Rock Hill Rd off 563)
Come take a hike up to the top of Haycock mountain. Easy trail for the beginners, but yet the boulders will make it exciting! Approx 45 min walk to the top and then back down. For those that don't want to make it to the top, come see how far you can go. We'll be looking at different trees, the geology of the rocks and taking some beautiful picture for the photography class. The hike is being led by Mr Hall, a scout leader and expert backpacker who makes hiking fun and interesting!

Read through the beginning part of the book and come prepared with comfortable shoes, back pack, water, snack if you would like, and your camera if you are joining in on the photography class.

More classes to come. Join in for Hiking, photogrpahy and or letterboxing. Do all 3 or just your favorites.

If you did not sign up for the hike tomorrow, please call Mrs. Polichetti or Mrs Machesic to let us know you would like to join.
See you in the morning!
Mrs. P.
